My art is on Instagram @klonskyart.
I will vote sometime next week. We have early voting in Illinois.
I could vote from home, but I take some pleasure in actually walking into an early voting location. The election workers are always friendly and I’m usually the only one there and they seem happy that I’m giving them something to do.
I live on the northwest side of Chicago in local state and congressional districts that are heavily Democratic. The outcome is pretty much determined. The Democrats are expected to sweep state offices and continue their hold on both chambers of the
Genera Assembly.
Still, TV is now almost non-stop political ads.
They mostly highlight abortion and inflation.
There is are no words about war and peace.
In January the Bulletin of Atomic scientists moved its Doomsday Clock to 100 seconds to midnight.
For the first time in generations world leaders are actually talking about the use of nuclear weapons.
Biden and the Democrats in Congress are spending more money on the machinery of war than ever.
Following our defeat in Afghanistan and the withdrawal of troops, Congress voted to increase the military budget.
Where there is an actual shooting war in Europe, there is no movement towards peace talks.
We are sending more weapons to Ukraine, as if there can be a winner there.
Relations with China couldn’t be worse as Biden and Pelosi threaten war over Taiwan.
As you can tell, I’m not happy about the current situation.
I’ve heard no candidates talking about this.
War or peace?
They are not on the ballot.
As I understand it, the elections have become a referendum on abortion. I think it's depressing.
We cannot let autocratic despots think they can invade neighboring autonomous Democratic countries at will. If we do, then there’s no reason for them to stop. That’s why we must stand up for Ukraine (and Taiwan if need be) with military assistance but minus boots on the ground. I don’t think Putin will use nuclear weapons as things now stand, otherwise he would be a pariah globally. But we must also do whatever we can to help those within Russia who want to see him overthrown.
