It wasn't for nothing. Saddam had shifted sales if oil from dollars exclusively to Euros. We were afraid that would negatively affect our system, so we attacked.

The ostensible justifications were lies, of course, but there really was a reason.

A quarter of a million dead for that? If that’s true it’s worse than the lies.

Of course. We were using other people's oil to back the US dollar. That's why we insisted oil sales use the US currency.

We could have opted to re-shore industrial production and go to renewables. The war would have been unnecessary.
