I think many people fail to appreciate the significance of 1/6 when it comes to judging Pence, Pottinger, Cheney and other republicans who broke with TFG after that. Heroes are not people who always do the right thing. Heroes are people who do the right thing when its not easy or not in their own interest. We forget Oskar Schindler joined the nazi party in 1939 and remained so throughout the war. He had a catharsis of conscience that led him to "do the right thing, for which his heroism is recognized. (not trying to compare Cheney, et.al to Schindler, but still). I think it is absolutely the correct tactic for Dems to appeal to that part of the Rep electorate that can be persuaded to reject this proto-facsism for the good of the nation. We can argue about universal healthcare and income inequality after we save the republic. (PS: I think the strategy is working)
Rather than thinking that the J6 committee is following an election strategy, they are presenting the facts that the former president had an agenda to stay in power forever ..... (remember those ads counting the years into the future. He even praised Putin for the ability to stay on as the Russian president forever. It's in the archives) ..... and showed how much distain he had for following the law and the oath he took in 2017. The hearings gave facts on how he listened to those who twisted the reading of constitution to make it to his liking.
Those republicans who testified are not heroes. They did nothing while all this was being planned out. They looked the other way and did nothing to stop him until it became violent and then they just resigned. And they resigned with a letter that praised the former - even though he consistently broke the oath of his office. Even his chief of staff did nothing.
I disagree that this is a strategy to get people to vote away from the republican party. The committee is doing its job of showing the facts. And despite what many republicans on the former's side are saying that there is no cross examination... you don't do that in committee hearings or depositions. You get that in a court of law after you are charged with a crime.
If the dems hold both houses in 2022, it will have been a winning strategy. :) Has something to do with Karl Popper and black swans maybe.
But in answer to your underlying question, yeah, if I were advising dems on how to win in 2022, I’d tell them to do this.
I want Dems to take gloves off.

"Maybe I’m wrong. Maybe this is a winning strategy."
You are not wrong.
