This weekend, which marked Easter, Passover and Ramadan, Israeli forces entered Jerusalem’s holiest mosque attacking Muslim worshippers during prayers.

U.S. media described it as “clashes”.

Imagine events in Ukraine being described as “clashes”.

Since the illegal and brutal invasion of Ukraine by Russia, western media, politicians and diplomats across the world have condemned Russia’s aggression and called on everyone to put their support behind Ukraine’s resistance forces.

And one of the politicians who rushed to voice his support for Ukraine and its people was Israeli Foreign Minister Yair Lapid.

It is hypocrisy all around.

Lapid defined the “Russian attack on Ukraine” as “a serious violation of the international order”.

“Israel condemns that attack and is ready and prepared to offer humanitarian assistance to Ukrainian citizens,” he said.

Russia invaded Ukraine claiming that Ukraine was not a real country and the land was always Russian. Western media and politicians reacted with sanctions and military aid, talking about “the illegality of occupations”, “occupied peoples’ right to armed resistance”, “the importance of sovereignty and national autonomy”.

Have you ever heard these arguments put forward when discussing the Palestinian people and their decades-long struggle for freedom?

When Ukrainian resistance throw rocks and molotov cocktails at invading Russians it is heroic.

When Palestinians in Jerusalem throw rocks at Israeli occupation forces they are condemned as terrorists.

Western media never speak of Palestinians making Molotov cocktails and throwing them at Israeli occupation and settlers as being heroic.

Paul Massaro, a senior policy adviser at the US Commission on Security and Cooperation in Europe, tweeted: “I’m racking my brain for a historical parallel to the courage and fighting spirit of the Ukrainians and coming up empty. How many people have ever stood their ground against an aggressor like this? It’s legendary.”

It’s also historically blind.
