A brief update to my many friends who have sent messages of support and concern.
My fourth day at Northwestern Memorial in Chicago.
After a lung scan the medical team has pretty much eliminated a blood clot, pulmonary embolism as the cause of my chest pain.
This is good and I have finally been disconnected from my constant companion since arriving here: the bag of heparin drip, a blood thinner.
Tomorrow I get to have a nuclear imaging look at my heart to see if there is blockage.
I hope that is ruled out as well. I have to wait and see until tomorrow.
It may be that neither caused the never-before experienced chest pain that sent me here on Friday.
That's the hope. Although leaving the hospital after four days without an explanation seems goofy, in the age of Covid, anything is possible and due caution is warranted.
And expensive, if not for me personally (thankful for my teacher retirement pension benefit of not free health insurance) then certrianly for our society as a whole.
Again I say that whatever concerns some people have with national health care, the present system is not sustainable.
