The MAGA mayor of New York City.
As a newbie here in New York I’m still in the learning phase when it comes to local politics.
And trains.
When we moved from Chicago to Brooklyn five months ago, we got rid of our car and joined the thousands (millions?) of New Yorkers who walk or take public transit.
Yesterday I had a doctor appointment near Union Square in Manhattan. I got on the F train at 7th and 9th Street in Brooklyn with the plan to transfer to the 6 at Broadway and Lafayette. I didn’t hear the announcement - partly because of my hearing loss and partly because I don’t know how anybody can hear what is being said - and that is when I looked up to notice that the F train I was on had changed direction and was heading for Queens.
Having no idea where I was, I got off.
“Your train was rerouted,” said the lady in the information booth. “Take the G to Metropolitan, follow the crowd to the L and it will take you to Union Square.”
I got to my appointment five minutes early and then waited 30 minutes to see the doctor.
As for local politics, I still don’t fully understand how an overwhelmingly Blue city like New York has a MAGA mayor.
Mayor Eric Adams is under federal indictment for corruption and some think his ass kissing of ReTrump is an attempt to curry favor and get a pardon if convicted.
Whatever. Adams has gone full Monty.
Adams has recently praised Elon Musk, suggesting the billionaire could solve what Adams imagines are the problems of public education.
Which, by the way, reminded me of when Chicago’s former mayor, Rahm Emanuel, hooked up with Musk to suggest building a capsule and an underground tunnel that would take wealthy passengers from Chicago’s Loop to O’Hare in 15 minutes.
Of course, it never happened.
Adams has bragged about his Bitcoin paychecks doubling in value following ReTrump’s election.
Adams announced he wanted to sit down with Trump border nazi, Tom Homan, to map out plans for deportations in New York.
Adams predicted he would get “canceled” for his immigration comments which also included a slideshow about where the city could have added funding if it hadn’t spent $6.4 million on housing and other services for migrants over the last three years.
“Cancel Culture” is an imaginary yet favorite target of the MAGAs.
The primary election for mayor of New York is just seven months away.
There is a bunch of progressive candidates anxious for the job.
I’m so looking forward to my first New York election since moving here.
