The heads of both national teacher unions call for ceasefire.

Becky Pringle is the president of the National Education Association. The NEA is the largest teacher union in the United States. Randi Weingarten is the president of the American Federation of Teachers which has 1.7 million members in 3,000 chapters mainly, but not exclusively in urban districts.
Both leaders of the nation’s teacher unions have come out in support of a ceasefire in Israel’s destruction of Gaza and the deaths of tens of thousands of Palestinians.
In the past, both unions have been generally supportive of Israel.
Pringle posted back on December 3rd:
Just the other day, Weingarten posted on X (formerly Twitter):
The two teacher unions together represent more than 4 million education workers.
They also represent a key part of the Democratic Party coalition.
They join other unions who are breaking with Biden’s strong support of Israel, support which includes providing Israel with the arms it uses to destroy Gaza.
The Biden administration has refused to use the word “ceasefire”.
