Presumptive Attorney General Matt Gaetz is an accused sex trafficker.
Enough said.
Gaetz may not even be the worst AG reTrump has ever picked.
In his first term Trump chose Jeff Sessions who was a Klansman in all things except for wearing a white robe to work.
The disturbing thing is how quiet the Democrats are about reTrumps cabinet and sub-cabinet appointments.
Most of the criticism of the Gaetz pick is coming from Republicans.
Perhaps the Democratic Party electeds are still dazed and confused by last week’s MAGA sweep of the House, Senate and White House.
Not so when it comes to reTrump’s foreign policy picks.
Members of the War Party - and by that I mean the Democrats - appear to be thrilled with the choice of Florida’s Marco Rubio to be Secretary of State.
Writes Aida Chavez in The Nation:
In 2010, Rubio defended the invasion of Iraq, long after most people had identified it as a catastrophe. As a member of Congress, he led the failed US effort to overthrow Venezuela’s president, was a key Senate supporter of a “maximum pressure” Iran policy, and opposed withdrawing the United States from Syria and Afghanistan in 2019 when Trump was thinking about getting out. “Now people may say what’s wrong with this? Get out of Syria, Iraq, Afghanistan, why are we fighting other people’s wars?” he said in a floor speech. “We’re not. This is not other people’s wars. This is ours.”
And when it comes to China, Rubio is an avowed war hawk.
Some Democratic Party support for the Rubio choice came immediately.
On board with the choice was Democratic Pennsylvania Senator John Fetterman. He called Rubio’s appointment “a strong choice.”
New Jersey Democratic Senator Cory Booker was reportedly ecstatic about the choice of Rubio who he called his “close friend.”
Democratic Party Arizona Senator Mark Kelly had only praise for his Republican colleague.
It appears that there are those on both sides of the aisle that are hungry for a reTrump China policy that demonstrates even greater hostility towards China than what the Biden/Harris administration was willing to offer.
And Biden/Harris was no slouch in its anti-China language and policies.
