Sharing a birthday with the fascist Orange Man.
I hit the 75 mark today.
An old friend from my high school days sent me a note saying, “who’d a thunk it?”
Not me, certainly.
We fly off tomorrow to Los Angeles where a bunch of old Fairfax High School chums are getting together for a party on Saturday, nobody wanting to wait for the next high school reunion that is not scheduled until 2026.
All of us who have made it so far will be 75 this year.
I volunteered to bring the lox to the party.
Ironically I share a birthday with Trump.
I watched some CNN yesterday, although there wasn’t much to watch except a bunch of talking heads filling air time. No cameras or recordings were allowed in the court room.
I guess I’m not as worked up about Trump hiding state secrets in his Mar-a-lago toilet as some are.
I’m not big on state secrets. They are mostly about spying on other countries and plans for wars.
Chelsea Manning was tortured in prison for exposing state secrets to the public.
Edward Snowdon lives in exile for doing the same.
Julian Assange has a warrant out for his arrest for sharing the dirty deeds of the U.S.
That Trump was going to use them instead for personal gain is most probable and that he broke the law is without question.
Yet I think he committed far worse crimes for which he will never be indicted.
The fact that he is the first president to be indicted - with more indictments yet to come - seems to be a flaw in our system of government considering the actions of past presidents in my own life-time like Nixon, LBJ, Reagan and Bush 1 and Bush 2.
By all accounts, the Orange One is making big bucks off of these latest charges and will likely be nominated again by the White Supremacist Party.
His chances of being re-elected to office seem unlikely.
But who knows? I’ve been wrong at least once before.
I was impressed by the tiny number of supporters who showed up in Miami yesterday when the press beforehand was suggesting otherwise.
Cable news was probably disappointed since a larger group of Nazis, Proud Boys and Oath Keepers causing violence would have boosted their ratings.
Oh, and just to be clear, I also share a birthday with Harriet Beecher Stowe, Che Guevara and Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson.
