The QAnon Shaman will serve some time for his role in the January 6th insurrection.
The prosecution asked for 51 months.
The judge gave him 41 months.
His real name is Jacob Chansley, the former actor and Navy sailor, was called “the flag-bearer” of the attack on the Capitol.
Look. I don’t care if the guy get 82 months at hard labor.
But the “flag bearer” of the insurrection wasn’t him.
The flag bearer is sitting down in Mar-a-Lago.
And the rest of the criminal gang is on the Republican side of the congressional aisle.
Some were actively engaged in the insurrection.
Amazingly, others were themselves cowering in fear of those like Jacob Chansley.
But now excuse the insurrectionists.
None will be punished or serve any time at all.
Chansley’s worst offense to me was his defense.
He defended his actions as being the result of being on the Autism spectrum.
I’ve have taught people with Autism my entire teaching career.
It’s pretty insulting even if it is true that he has Autism.
His claims to Autism follow an earlier defense.
Mr. Chansley gave an interview to “60 Minutes,” saying that his actions on were not an assault on the nation, but rather a way to “bring God back into the Senate.”
I’m skeptical of that explanation too.
When Mr. Chansley addressed the court, he quoted Jesus, Gandhi and Justice Clarence Thomas. He went on to discuss his tattoos, his late grandfather’s role in his life and the prison movie “The Shawshank Redemption.”
Whatever.
I’m still waiting for the leaders of the insurrection to be charged and brought to justice.
