On day one.
Where should we start?
Most of the media attention has been on pardons.
How about healthcare?
Congressional MAGAs are weighing options to cut federal spending on Medicaid. They want to use the dollars on Trump priorities, such as extending the 2017 tax cuts and what they call “border security.”
They advanced legislation this week that would ban trans athletes from girls’ school sports.
The Supreme Court has agreed to hear a case later this year about the U.S. Preventive Services Task Force
The Task Force is an independent body of experts that issues recommendations in disease prevention and medicine.
A ruling could strip coverage for key preventive health services from not just those with Affordable Care Act coverage, but also those on employer-sponsored health plans.
There is more.
On Monday Trump issued a sweeping order aimed at reversing dozens of regulations aimed at lowering health care costs, coronavirus outreach, Affordable Care Act expansions, and protections against gender-based discrimination.
The “initial rescissions” order, signed in front of cheering crowds at the Capital One Arena, revokes dozens of existing health policies.
They include an October 2022 order to test Medicare and Medicaid models that could lower health care costs, an extension if the Biden administration’s limited attempts to negotiate drug prices in the Inflation Reduction Act.
Trump rescinded Biden’s executive order that led to longer enrollment periods for Affordable Care Act plans in most states and extra funding for the third parties that help people enroll in ACA insurance.
Trump revoked several Biden already limited policies aimed at tackling the Covid-19 pandemic and preparing the country for future infectious disease outbreaks.
“It will henceforth be the official policy of the United States government that there are only two genders, male and female,” Trump said during his inauguration speech.
So on Monday Trump rescinded a 2022 policy against discriminating against people on the basis of sexual or gender identity that ordered support for LGBTQ+ students and instructed officials to end programs promoting so-called conversion therapy both domestically and internationally.
Trump similarly rescinded orders to promote protections on the basis of sex and gender identity in schools.
And that was just on his first day.
