Minneapolis Federation of Teachers and Education Support Professionals voted Sunday to ratify the union's tentative agreement with Minneapolis Public Schools, with 75 percent of union members voting "Yes."
Greta Callahan, president of the teachers chapter, called the deal a win in a press conference following the announcement of the vote.
Callahan urged the union's supporters to run for open school board seats and pressure the state legislatures to increase funding for public schools.
"Improving the culture of the schools, for my union in particular, getting paid a livable wage means that our district values the work that I do and the work that my fellow colleagues do," said Brad Harris, an Education Support Professional at Anwatin Middle School.
Meanwhile today the largest teacher union, the National Education Association announced a partnership with Airbnb to supplement their members income by renting out teachers’ homes.
Yes. I know what you’re thinking.
Why not sell our blood?
Many teachers have income so low that we already are forced to work multiple jobs to support our families.
Now, working through NEA Member Benefits and Airbnb, we can enjoy all the rewards of being a host as well.
Recognizing the important role that hosting already plays in the lives of so many educators, Airbnb and NEA Member Benefits are today announcing a new partnership that will support members of the National Education Association (NEA) in accessing the economic opportunity of hosting.
Organizing and strikes can be messy.
NEA and Airbnb are offering an alternative.
Home from work. Dinner on the table. Help the kids with homework. Grade papers and prepare the lesson plans.
Then bake some muffins for your guests.
You don’t have a spare room to rent?
Give them yours and you sleep on cots in the garage.
Thanks NEA Member Benefits.
With the cost of living going up 8% annually, our union says, “Time to get that side hustle on.”
