Under siege from who?
You might think that the Progressives in the Democratic Party might be facing the wrath of MAGA Republicans and Trumpers.
You would be thinking wrong.
I have long believed that centrist Democrats are much more committed to defeating the Left in their party than they are in defeating Trump and the MAGAs.
Biden’s support for Netanyahu and Israel’s expanding war has only served to bring their attack on those within the Democratic Party who oppose further military aid into sharper focus.
The targets of Democratic Party leaders now includes Senator Bernie Sanders and Senator Elizabeth Warren.
Both have come out in the past few days to speak out against current policies and the brutality of the war on Gaza.
I wish one of them or some other Progressive would have taken Biden on in the primaries. It is a shame that he has been given a free ride to renomination.
Most voters according to most polls are not looking forward to a rerun of the 2020 race between Trump and Biden.
Large sections of the Democratic base are turned off by the current administration. The general election is still 11 months away and Biden and the Democrats might recover but right now Trump is doing much better this time among Latinx and young voters according to current polls and is in tight races in at least seven swing states.
Support for Israel is one issue that is hurting Biden.
A growing number of voters are expressing doubt about the administration’s support for the war.

The cracks in the Democratic coalition over the issue are the latest in a fight that’s been developing for months within the party. Nowhere has that been clearer than in the predicament faced by the Democratic “Squad,” the group of far-left House members who have been at the forefront of efforts calling for a ceasefire in the Israel-Hamas war and attacking Netanyahu for a military campaign that’s killed tens of thousands of civilians in the region.
Allied with the centrist Democrats is the Israel lobby led by the American Israel Public Affairs Committee who are planning on spending over $100 million to primary members of The Squad.
An AIPAC-affiliated super PAC has already launched ads hitting two Squad members — Rep. Jamaal Bowman (D-N.Y.) and Rep. Summer Lee (D-Pa.) — along with libertarian Rep. Thomas Massie (R-Ky.) over their stances on the Israel-Hamas conflict.
The MAGAs are smiling.
