June 14th: A fascist military parade, a "No Kings" protest, early voting in NY and Grandma Esther's birthday.

This week marks one year since Anne and I sold our Chicago house and car, packed up our belongings and moved to Brooklyn.
It was a good move. As much as I loved Chicago after having lived there for over 50 of my nearly 77 years, we are really enjoying this city.
For one thing, I have never walked so much in my life!
Plus our children and grandchildren are here.
I’ve circled June 14th on the calendar as a very important date.
Trump has ordered his Defense Department to organize an expensive and stupid fascist style military parade in the Capitol on that date.
Meanwhile in New York and in towns across the country, anti-fascists will be taking to the streets in “No Kings” protests.
June 14th is also the Brooklyn Pride Parade which takes place just down the block from us on 5th Avenue, starting at 7:30 pm.
New York City’s early voting for mayor and city council starts on June 14th as well.
We have one hell of a candidate in Zohran Momdani.
Momdani has gone from single digits in the polls just a few months ago to coming within 8 percentage points of the debased former governor, Andrew Cuomo. Name recognition and millions of dollars in real estate and corporate interests have given Cuomo a temporary lead.
I’ve signed on to do some phone banking for the Momdani. His campaign has created an incredible army of folks canvassing every neighborhood in this huge city.
His laser-like campaign on making New York affordable has caught on with the voters and has forced every other candidate to address the issue.
His progressive endorsements are piling up.
Still in question? Who will the United Federation of Teachers and AOC endorse. If anybody.
June 14th is also my late Grandmother Esther Wainer’s birthday.
Esther was an immigrant, socialist and feminist.

And, I have always been proud to share my birthday with Grandma Esther.
