In Sarasota the rallies won't stop until Moms for Liberty founder is off the school board.
The weather here on Anna Maria Island on the Florida Gulf Coast is sunny but too chilly to spend time in the water or for extended beach time.
But across the bridge in Sarasota thing are getting hot for Moms for Liberty co-founder Bridget Ziegler.
Last night, Tuesday, community members rallied at the Sarasota school board meeting. Ziegler is a member of the school board, refusing to resign following reports of her husband’s sexual assault charges coming to light.
Also making news were reports that Bridget and husband Christian (how ironic is THAT name) engaged in solicitation for three-way sex.
Both Bridget and Christian are active MAGA Republicans and frequently preached their distorted views of family values and lectured about the evils lurking in the LGBT community.
Tuesday was the third time community members have rallied demanding Bridget’s resignation from the Sarasota County school board.
Among organizers of the rallies was the SEE Alliance.
The SEE Alliance is a growing group of youth organizers who collaborate to build power for young people.
Executive Director of SEE Alliance, Zander Moricz, said the calls for Ziegler to step down go beyond the alleged three-way she was involved in.
He said it also has to do with protecting Sarasota County Schools from Ziegler’s “horrible” policy changes. According to Moricz, it’s time the community voted on whether Ziegler should stay or go.
“Only one-third of our community voted in the last school board election. No one has had to pay attention to school board’s because it’s previously been a non-partisan academic focused institution,” said Moricz.
Moms for Liberty has made taking over elected school boards one of their main priorities.
During public comment, Moricz said he focused on trying to give Ziegler a way out.
“Bridget Ziegler doesn’t know what to do anymore. Her party has abandoned her, her supporters have abandoned her, the communities that have previously supported her have abandoned her, her own organization released a statement distancing themselves from her,” Moricz told a local Sarasota TV station.
Moricz told reporters that the protests will continue until Bridget resigns from the board.
Christian was ousted as the head of the Florida GOP in January.
