In New York with United for Change. One teacher's story.
All my drawings can be found on Instagram @klonskyart.
I have been a union member and activist for 50 years. That means I have had to fight both the boss and the union bureaucrats and mis-leaders. I have always been part of the movement for union democracy and reform.
I have been told lately that if I am not a member of a specific union I have no right to say anything and that I can't take sides in an internal union election in which I am not a member.
That's baloney.
In NYC's UFT upcoming election, colleagues, friends and family members are running against the entrenched incumbent leadership of Michael Mulgrew and his crew. I support United for Change because it is good not just for the teachers in NY, but because it is good for teachers everywhere.
Here is a great blog post from NY teacher and friend Jonathan Halabi.
