Hot Commie Summer: MAGA Islamophobic slurs, unhinged Wall Street, Democratic Establishment silence.
Bloomberg News calls it “hot commie summer”.
Which sounds like the name of a sex tape.
Watch for “hot commie summer” to be blazoned across t-shirts as a Brooklyn fashion statement and on the boardwalk at Brighton Beach.
America has not settled down yet from what some were calling a historic and stunning upset in the Democratic Party New York mayoral primary on Tuesday.
That a cohesive message of an affordable city would find receptive voters in increasingly unaffordable New York would stun anybody just shows how out of touch some people in power are.
It certainly stunned Andrew Cuomo and his billionaire Wall Street backers who are even now considering another bite of the Big Apple.
They will only be stunned again.
Led by Trump’s unhinged social media posts, the MAGA right is frothing at the mouth with Islamophbia-on-speed.
And Turning Points USA founder Charlie Kirk:
“24 years ago a group of Muslims killed 2,753 people on 9/11. Now a Muslim Socialist is on pace to run New York City.”
The Democratic Party Establishment, on the other hand, hasn’t figured out whether they should poop or wipe.
At a federal level, Senator Chuck Schumer and Representative Hakeem Jeffries, who lead Senate and House Democrats, have both congratulated Mamdani, but they haven't gone so far as to endorse him. Representative Jerry Nadler, who previously endorsed Scott Stringer in the primary, has since endorsed Mamdani. In a Thursday interview with WNYC's Brian Lehrer, Senator Kirsten Gillibrand got into a tense back-and-forth with the host, who tried to fact-check her for saying Mamdani had made past references to "global jihad," which he has not. Gillibrand then pivoted by insisting Mamdani should clearly denounce calls to "globalize the intifada."
Still, a number of powerful Democrats have already endorsed Mamdani, including New York Attorney General Letitia James, Representatives Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, Nydia Velázquez, and Yvette Clarke, Senator Bernie Sanders and Brooklyn Borough President Antonio Reynoso. And Assemblywoman Rodneyse Bichotte Hermelyn, who chairs the Brooklyn Democratic Party, and who is close with both Eric Adams and Cuomo, has since seen the writing on the wall. "New York City spoke, and we as leaders have to fall in line," she said.
And not enough of the Dem leadership have said enough about the vile and violent Islamophobic slurs and threats directed at Zohran.
It was only a year ago that we were being lectured to vote Blue mo matter who.
But now a week has nearly passed since Zohran won the Democratic nomination for Mayor of New York.
Chuck Schumer? No endorsement.
Hakeem Jeffries? No endorsement.
Kathy Hochul? No endorsement.
Hypocrites.
