Gaza is the skunk at the party.
Watching the DNC on night two looked like a party.
The roll call of the states even had a DJ.
Discarding all journalistic objectivity - whatever the hell that is - tv reporters admitted they were caught up in the moment and joined delegates dancing in the aisles of the United Center as the roll call went on.
And who doesn’t like a good party?
I thought Michelle Obama got off the second best line of the night when she said, "We will never benefit from the affirmative action of generational wealth.”
Michelle is one hell of a speaker and she left her husband in the dust. He came off as a professor giving the most boring of lectures.
The room didn’t care. After all, there was a party going on.
The best line of the night belonged to Bernie.
“Abroad, we must end this horrific war in Gaza, bring home the hostages, and demand an immediate ceasefire,” Sanders said.
Thirty delegates from eight states, representing some 700,000 voters who cast “uncommitted” ballots, were on the UC floor last night, though they have been denied an official platform to speak at the proceedings.
But they are the skunks at the party.
Responding to yesterday’s post, a friend wrote:
Living in the state of New York, just as it was true in Illinois, you have the luxury of a protest vote, either not voting, or voting for a third party presidential candidate. But a pro- Hamas/Palestinian voter in Michigan that stays home, or votes third party is helping to elect Donald Trump.
Trump is our Netanyahu. He will give Israel anything and everything they want. He will do nothing for Palestine. If they contribute in anyway to Trump's victory they will live to regret it. You have to see that.
I wrote back:
I do not argue with that.
But we can chew gum and walk at the same time.
I can oppose Trump and oppose genocide at the same time.
You read my posts so you know that’s what I do.
But watching last night’s display was very disturbing.
Once upon a time conventions were a place to debate platform issues like war and peace.
Now it’s just a tv show, and not a very good one at that.
They took a page from the MAGA playbook with all the flag-waving and USA, USA chants. Truly awful.
But you’re right about living and voting in New York and Illinois.
It is both a luxury and disenfranchising. My vote means nothing. Including voting third party.
So all that is left for me is to raise my concerns even if it feels like pissing in the wind.
I will vote against Trump as I have in the last two elections. And I will write about the danger he represents.
As I have.
But I won’t lose sight of the fact that the Democrats are the war party and have been my entire life.
Trump may be our Netanyahu, but Netanyahu has had the full support of every Democratic president since he came to power.
