FOP union MAGA president Catanzara is re-elected. If elected mayor, "take the handcuffs off the police" Paul Vallas, will be his partner?
There were two elections in Chicago this past week.
On Tuesday the first round in the race for Chicago Mayor took place.
Failed CPS CEO Paul Vallas built up big numbers in the “cop wards” on the northwest and southwest sides. County Commissioner Brandon Johnson came in second with majorities in wards on the north side.
Neither of the candidates won a single ward on the south or west side.
The other election was yesterday for head of the Fraternal Order of Police, the city’s faux police union.
John Catanzara, a fierce critic of Mayor Lori Lightfoot and State’s Attorney Kim Foxx, was re-elected head of the faux union with a whopping 57% of the vote.
Catanzara made headlines back on January 6th for supporting the insurrection at the Capitol
He’s a self-identified Trumper.
He endorsed Paul Vallas.
Paul Vallas is running a law and order campaign with FOP backing.
While neighborhoods all over the city are concerned with crime, the actual crime numbers are declining in this city.
This hasn’t stopped Paul Vallas from presenting his so-called public safety plan that puts “taking the handcuffs off the police” as it’s guiding principle.
Every Chicago neighborhood is concerned with gun violence and crime, but an alliance of City Hall and the FOP should give everyone pause.
Reality has no power over political lies that are repeated and repeated by the Tribune as well as radio and TV ads.
Police presence data to follow.
I was/am making an assumption about Uvalde. Yes, they arrived late like fire fighters but the stayed comfortably out of range unlike fire fighters. My assumption is that they “pulled back” - a mutation of “ blue flu”.
We now have objective GPS data that police are also staying away from Chicago “hot spots”. And I’m predicting they stay further away throughout Chicago over the coming four weeks. If their guy does not prevail they will play that card until DeSantis is president.
If you have some patience, I’ll get back to you with data on police presence . For now try to appreciate those visible highway cruisers whose presence passively slows down traffic - as compared to police cars hiding behind bushes.
