Early voting in Illinois begins this week. I'll be voting for #ceasefire in the Democratic primary.
For all practical purposes the electoral college disenfranchises me.
I vote in an overwhelmingly Democratic precinct, in an overwhelmingly Democratic district, in a overwhelmingly Democratic city and state.
In presidential elections at least, my vote means nothing.
Expressing my views through the ballot box on national issues is frustrating at best.
Early voting for the March primary starts this week in selected locations around the state.
Early voting in each city ward will start March 4th. The last day to vote in the primary will be March 19th.
An important vote for me will be on referendum calling for a progressive real estate transfer tax.
I’ve been advocating for a tax on real estate sales over a million dollars - what some call a “Mansion Tax” - for years.
Who I won’t be voting for in the primary is Joe Biden.
Although there are some no-names running against Biden in the primary, there is no question he will win the vote and all the delegates in Illinois.
Biden’s support for the Israeli slaughter in Gaza along with providing the weapons of war to carry it out eliminate the possibility that I would vote for him in the primary or for any of the nominating convention delegates pledged to him running in my congressional district.
I will write in #ceasefire.
My vote will not count or be reported.
But as I said, in presidential elections my vote does not count anyway.
Perhaps by November Biden will reverse his position.
But I’m skeptical.
