Reacting to the Fed’s so-called investigation of Andrew Cuomo, I agree with Zohran Mamdani.
"Andrew Cuomo’s career has been defined by corruption and deceit and his lying to Congress about his COVID response is no exception. But Donald Trump cannot be trusted to pursue justice. While I believe New Yorkers should reject the disgraced ex-Governor at the ballot box, the Trump administration’s actions are dangerous.”
There is plenty of Andrew Cuomo to reject.
While Cuomo has tried to walk back many of the positions that he took when he was governor hoping to get teacher union endorsement, the question is will it work?
He describes those positions as “ancient history”.
But they are not.
He was essentially the author of Tier 6, the state public employee pension system which reduced benefits and extended the length of time until a public employee, including teachers, could retire.
He says he is against Tier 6 now. But the damage has been done. Plus the mayor has no authority in this matter.
Cuomo has sort of walked back his position on public tax support for private charter schools. He was a vocal supporter of charter schools as governor.
Now?
As governor, Cuomo supported the increased use of standardized test scores in teacher evaluation.
Cuomo’s first budget as governor in 2011 included deep cuts to school funding.
Cuomo refused to support the state Foundation Aid formula that provided money to high needs schools.
The UFT should not endorse this guy and teachers should not rank him on their ballot.
