For three years before the pandemic, my brother Michael Klonsky and I did a weekly radio show and podcast at Chicago’s Lumpen Radio.

One of the things I’m most proud of is that the show allowed us to shine some light on the history false convictions and police torture used to exact confessions that made Chicago the false conviction capital of the United States.

Daniel Rodriguez, framed by disgraced ex-CPD Det. Rey Guevara, was exonerated yesterday morning.

It is the 21st overturned conviction tied to Guevera, who continues to collect a pension from Chicago taxpayers & costs the City millions per year in attorneys fees. (

Daniel Rodriquez served 17 years in prison for a crime he didn’t commit and was exonerated of a 1991 murder, framed by corrupt former Chicago police detectives Reynaldo Guevara and Ernest Halvorsen.

“There is no longer any dispute that Guevara and Halverson terrorized families on Chicago’s westside,” said Anand Swaminathan, one of Rodriguez’s lawyers.

Swaminathan continued, "We are thankful for the decision to vacate Daniel’s conviction, but there are many other innocent men calling out from prison as Cook County continues to defend convictions supposedly ‘solved’ by Guevara and Halvorsen.”

In March 2020, State’s Attorney Kim Foxx announced a review of Guevara-related convictions.
