And the U.S. House censors Congresswoman Tlaib?
First off, a tip of the hat to the voters in Ohio who yesterday passed a constitutional amendment protecting abortion rights.
It wasn’t even close in a state that went for Trump by 53% in 2020.
Since the SCOTUS voted to overturn Roe seven states have passed laws to expand abortion rights.
Also yesterday 24 Democrats joined the MAGA House majority in censoring the only Palestinian woman in Congress.
Congresswoman Rashida Tlaib, a member of the progressive faction known as The Squad, is being punished for opposing Israeli genocide in Gaza and in criticizing the Biden administration for supporting Israel.
Congresswoman Tlaib was censored for her speech and for her beliefs.
This is the same House of Representatives with members like Matt Goetz, Marjory Taylor Greene and Lauren Bobert.
They have never even faced a censor vote.
Tlaib reacted to the House censor vote:
“The cries of the Palestinian and Israeli children sound no different to me. What I don’t understand is why the cries of Palestinians sound different to you all. We cannot lose our shared humanity, Mr Chair. I hear the voices of advocates in Israel and Palestine across America and around the world for peace.
I’m inspired by … the courageous survivors in Israel who have lost loved ones, yet are calling for a ceasefire and the end to violence. I am grateful to the people in the streets for the peace movement, with countless Jewish Americans across the country standing up and lovingly saying ‘not in our name.”
I stand with Tlaib.
