The United Nations ceasefire resolution.
On Monday the United Nations security council passed a ceasefire resolution. It was the third one that passed the security council. The previous two were vetoed by the United States.
This third time the United States abstained.
It seems that the protests, the campus rallies and the uncommitted/leave-it-blank actions by voters is having some effect.
The abstention by the United States represents a slight shift but it was enough to piss Netanyahu off. He cancelled a visit here by Israeli officials.
The resolution itself is not enforceable. Still it does represent the feelings of most people and countries in the world.
And most Americans.
In spite of the U.S. abstention the Biden administration and Congress just included $3.8 billion for the Israeli military into the bill that prevented a U.S. government shutdown.
Israeli Defense Minister Yoav Gallant is in Washington to negotiate more rockets and missiles intended for the destruction of Gaza and the eventual construction of beach front resorts.
But the growing tension between Netanyahu and Biden matters.
It may also represent a real difference over the planned Israeli assault on Rafah.
Israeli major general, Nimrod Shafter, told an Israeli radio station today will not happen if the Americans tell the Israelis not to do it.
The Gaza peace movement is having its impact.
This is no time to keep quiet.
